Flyafrica.com, a new low fare airline has just announced its launch, with its first route between Victoria Falls and Johannesburg going on sale for just R99 (one-way, excl taxes and fuel surcharges).
Spokesperson for the airline Adrian Hamilton-Manns said flyafrica.com plans to start a revolution within the travel industry by scrapping fuel surcharges.
"Fuel surcharges are simply double charging by airlines to hide the true cost of travel. We will never apply a fuel surcharge," said Hamilton-Manns said.
flyafrica.com's first flight from Victoria Falls will take-off on Wednesday 16 July. It plans to operate the route on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays for the first four weeks after which "flyafrica.com will expand operations".
"The low fare airline will operate scheduled regional flights in Africa from various bases; the first of which is from Zimbabwe. flyafrica.com will announce other bases in the coming months.
"New routes, increased frequencies and new airlines will be announced in the coming weeks and months. With fares from R99 the revolution has begun!"
Zimbabwe flyafrica is the first airline of the flyafrica.com group to launch. A joint venture between nu.com, a Zimbabwe based infrastructure company and Flyafrica Ltd, a private equity aviation investment group.
