Lufthansa Festival der Barocken Musik in London UK vom 13.-22. Mai 2011.

Ort: St. John's, Smith Square, is situated not far from Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament, off Millbank, and only a short walk from Westminster tube station and Parliament Square.

This year's Festival takes a tour of Central Europe, from the Hanseatic trading towns of the Baltic coast through the courts and cities of Germany, Poland, Bohemia and Austria, to finish up by the waters of the Venetian lagoon.

Colour, variety and the thrill of discovery are on offer, from the noble majesty of Bach's B minor Mass to the spark and passion of Vivaldi, and the quirky inventiveness of the violin masters of Germany and Austria to the intimacy and perfection of Bach's chamber music for viola da gamba.

There are opportunities to sample the little-known but fertile musical heritages of Poland and Bohemia, to find out what pleased the music-lovers of Hamburg and to imagine that Westminster Abbey is Salzburg Cathedral for a night when its famous choir tackles a sumptuous Requiem by one of the great musical characters of the 17th century, Heinrich Biber.

That most inexplicably underrated of Baroque composers, Dietrich Buxtehude, gets an evening to himself showcasing the extraordinary masterpiece that is Membra Jesu nostri; counter-tenor Robin Blaze and friends explore the exquisite repertoire of German song; and in our late-night concert Telemann immerses himself in the heady whirl of Eastern European folk music.

All this, plus a Festival debut by the revered doyen of modern-day harpsichordists, Gustav Leonhardt.

With such great names of Baroque music past and present, it promises to be a rich voyage. Do come with us.
