Lufthansa plant als eine der weltweit ersten Fluggesellschaften Serientests mit alternativen Treibstoffen. Bereits innerhalb der nächsten zwei Jahre könnte die Airline regelmäßig Biotreibstoff einsetzen. Durch den steigenden Ölpreis werden Treibstoffe aus nachwachsenden Rohstoffen konkurrenzfähig.

Spot price this week is highest since October 2008

The price of jet fuel reached its highest point in more than a year-and-a-half this week, rising more than 12 cents from the week before to $2.389 a gallon on the daily spot market in New York, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

The increase in the daily rate extends a steady run-up that saw the average price during April hit $2.265 a gallon, about 24 cents ahead of the price just two months ago, according to EIA figures.

The average New York Harbor price in April also was $1.26, or 61 percent, higher than the average spot market price airlines paid for jet fuel a year ago...

'HAMBURG: Lufthansa is set to become one of the world's first airlines to mix biofuel with traditional kerosene on commercial flights as carriers seek ways to cut soaring fuel costs, its chief executive said.

The German flag carrier will start running its engines on some flights on a mix of biofuel and kerosene within two years, Wolfgang Mayrhuber told reporters on the sidelines of an event late on Saturday...

Nach Lufthansa macht nun auch United erste Gehversuche mit Biosprit.

We're operating the first U.S. commercial flight powered by advanced biofuels today. Flight 1403, a Boeing 737-800, departs Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport at 10:30 a.m. for Chicago O’Hare. We'll be posting updates throughout the morning as we make this historic flight.
