After one year EK Platinum Status I will lose it and I must say that I really do not care although I am marginally below the threshold, the benefits from Gold to Platinum are marginal at its best. For 3x the airmails that you need for Gold the Platinum benefits are not really attractive.

1. Lounge, of course the First Class lounge in Dubai is nice(er) though it is only a benefit in DXB other airports you're with the "rest" of the business class passengers
2. upgrades, eh which upgrades? I have during my time as platinum not experienced any really boost in the upgrades during my flights. I also have the impression that Gold members have received upgrades instead of platinum members (only a feeling based on what I have seen)
3. preferred treatment, eh... not really no real benefit to being gold
4. checkin at first class counter, well at the end not really any benefit the increased KGs are nice but, my credo is travel light. So not something of a benefit for me.
5. since a few months the car class in Dubai is better than when flying business class / being gold, but it does not really make a big difference if I get a Volvo or an E Class Mercedes. At other ports it is anyhow random and it is not decisive if your are premium or not
6. when flying; no preferred treatment, except being greeted by everybody. Food and drinks are like any one else. No prefers oder of food to secure your meal. Thus if they run out you might be the one to suffer....

Well it might sound negative though for 150k instead of 50k miles you would expect more a lot more..... I have enjoyed Diamond status with an asian airline in the one world alliance and it really made a big difference to being Gold "only", both at the ground and when flying. The number of upgrades and treatment when flying were miles apart when moving from Gold to Diamond.

Emirates though only offers marginal additional benefits, secondly the Skywards program is a extremely poor value for miles when you try to use them. My recommendation after achieving the Gold you have all the benefits you need, better then focus on collecting miles with other alliances as the additional 100k miles needed to get Platinum is not giving you any real value for your money.

Happy flying....if you have to be away from your home
