Hi zusammen,

Flight Information: New Boarding Concept in Hamburg as of April 24th 2019

Dear Passenger,

With a new comprehensive package of initiatives, we want to ensure this year that Eurowings remains one of the most punctual and reliable airlines in all of Europe. So we’ve added more buffer time in the flight schedule and provided additional reserve aircraft. Our initial successes speak for themselves. In February, Eurowings was the most punctual airline in Europe. In other areas, however, we need your help as a passenger to guarantee boarding runs smoothly and quickly.

Since the beginning of March, Eurowings has been testing new boarding procedures at all gates at the Cologne Bonn Airport. The aim of the pilot project is faster boarding to prevent delays that can be caused by too many carry-ons or ones that are too large or too heavy. That’s why, in the future, we will pay more attention to our existing rules for carry-ons.

As a passenger, you’ll notice changes in our boarding process. There will be two groups at each gate.

  • Group 1: (Priority boarding): BIZclass and SMART passengers as well as Lufthansa status customers (HON Circle member, Senator)
  • Group 2: BASIC passengers
Our hand baggage rules:

  • One item of hand luggage on board with a maximum weight of 8 kg and maximum dimensions of 55 x 40 x 23 cm(only in BIZ class: two pieces of hand luggage)
  • In addition, each passenger may bring one personal item with a maximum dimension of 40 x 30 x 10 cm (e.g., laptop bag or handbag)

For the BASIC fare, carry-ons cannot necessarily be taken on board on heavily booked flights.

Good to know:
The storage space on board is limited. Onboard carry-ons that later need to be stowed in the cargo hold cause delays. That’s why all passengers can check in their carry-ons beforehand for free on heavily booked flights. Eurowings will ask you to take advantage of that opportunity for such flights by e-mail, text message, and at the check-in counter before you board.

Our carry-on policy changes:
  • We will let you know in advance by text message, e-mail, and at the check-in counter if your flight is heavily booked and will ask you to check in your carry-on for free.
  • Passengers flying BASIC may be requested at the gate to check in their carry-on for free. We are required to enforce that for safety reasons.
  • At the gate, we will carefully check for compliance with our carry-on conditions. If carry-on luggage doesn’t comply with our conditions, a fee of €35 will be charged regardless of fare or status.
  • All passengers who checked in their carry-ons will receive them upon arrival in the baggage claim area of their destination airport.

You can also help us to speed up boarding by stowing your smaller personal item under the seat in front of you and particularly your larger carry-on, like trolleys, in the overhead compartment.

We look forward to welcoming you on board, now and in the future!

Yours sincerely,

Eurowings
