For expertly crafted French and International cuisine, make a visit to this lovely restaurant that was once a Jesuit convent. The historic building has been carefully restored and provides for a relaxing meal accompanied by first class service. The many choices from light salads to rack of lamb and tantalizing desserts make decisions difficult when faced with the menu. Order one of the house specialties, a hearty steak that's tender and cooked to perfection.
Restaurant Dackel
Dr Gabriel Otero 6438
Carrasco

Authentic German cuisine is served up in this traditional restaurant that's located in the trendy Carrasco neighborhood. When ordering, opt for the house specialty, the Costilla Kassler, a hearty pork chop that's diligently smoked and then expertly grilled. Before signing off however, ask for a piece of the warm and crumbly apple strudel that wraps up dinner with aplomb.

Rumored by locals to be one of the city's most outstanding restaurants, this Italian dining room located in the Ciudad Vieja (old section of the city) offers homemade pastas and other traditional Italian fare. The salmon ravioli draws rave reviews, and the apple pancake with ice cream and caramel shouldn't be overlooked. A well-chosen wine list accompanies the menu. The restaurant's close proximity to the famed Teatro Solís makes it an ideal pre- or post-theatre stop.

This casual restaurant serves up the traditional national food — grilled meats, seafood and vegetables — as well as a selection of fresh seafood and steaks. The kitchen is consistent and well-schooled, keeping diners returning for more. Las Brasas's claim to fame is that United States politician and one-time First Lady Hilary Clinton dined here during one of her stays in Montevideo. A picture hanging on the restaurant wall commemorates this event.

Situated along the lovely riverfront, this classic seafood restaurant garners its name from the Hemingway novel "The Old Man and the Sea." It offers only the freshest catches along with savory pasta dishes and fresh salads. Nautical decor abounds, with the bar being fashioned from an old boat. An outdoor dining area makes for great seats during pleasant weather.

Really a must, a mixture of uruguayan nice beers and well-known international ones, a nice place to drink one, or invite over a friend. Prices are cool, and ladies are fine, tough not the best in the country by a mile. Great music, and sometimes live shows featuring rock and folk music. It is open 365 days a year

This is the ‘in’ place of Montevideo, with great music, drinks that are affordable, and a cool vibe. The trendy two-tiered venue has rapidly established itself as one of the hottest places in Montevideo. Inside you’ll find two bars and two dance floors – and lots of the city’s beautiful people, drinks in hand, moving to the music. Techno dominates downstairs but upstairs you’re almost as likely to hear rock songs, as the DJs like to keep the crowd on their toes. There’s an excellent terrace with views out over the ocean if you find yourself in need of some air.
