Lufthansa jet makes emergency landing in Labrador - Nfld. & Labrador - CBC News

A Lufthansa flight bound for Boston made an emergency landing in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, N.L., Friday night after a warning light suggested there was fire in the aircraft.

Lufthansa spokesman Martin Riecken said Flight 420 landed safely and there were no injuries among the 215 passengers and 12 crew members.

Riecken said a warning indicator flashed in the cockpit of the A340-300 Airbus and the pilot activated an onboard fire extinguisher system.

However, a military spokesman said there were no visible signs of fire or smoke aboard the aircraft, which had originated from Frankfurt, Germany.

Passengers were put on a bus and stayed there for a couple of hours before they returned to the plane. Once back on board, the crew announced they could not take off until a technician gave the all-clear.

The passengers spent the night in hotels and were still waiting Saturday to hear about the status of the flight.

The Happy Valley-Goose Bay airport is frequently used as an emergency landing strip for transatlantic flights.

War denn an dieser Stelle schon genügend Sprit verbrannt um ein sicheres Landegewicht zu erreichen?

Wahrscheinlich wurde zum refresh der Film mit den Schwimmwesten nochmal wiederholt...

There was no mention of possible ditching. The crew ran through the safety procedures again and did demo the life jackets as part of that. At one point we were told to prepare for a possible fast emergency exit. The whole thing was calmm and done professionally.
