Extreme weather conditions have affected operations at Lanseria International Airport with flights being unable to take off due to ice on the wings of the aircraft.
The airport was affected by similar conditions on Monday with frustrated passengers taking to social media to express their dismay.
"The delays should not be long and hopefully flight schedules will be resuming shortly, the obvious effect is the unfortunate knock on delays caused for the rest of the day" said Lanseria spokesperson Claudette Vianello.
Vianello confirmed most local airports do not have the necessary de-icing equipment since these extreme weather conditions are not normal for South Africa.
Mango confirmed that its 06:45 flight was delayed by an hour, which might have a knock on effect for its 12.20 flight to Cape Town.
kulula confirmed its 06:00 flight to Cape Town was delayed but had left at 08:00. The airline's 06:15 to Durban also left shortly after 08:00.
The 08:30 flight to Cape Town has been cancelled with passengers being moved to the kulula 09:35 flight - which is said to be on track.
Passengers are advised to contact their airlines to keep abreast of any further knock-on delays.
