Von Lufthansa:

On the 05 August Helsinki-Vantaa airport will undergo a major change. There will no longer be a domestic and an international terminal division.

Helsinki-Vantaa’s new Terminals 1 and 2 will be divided airline-specific according to international standard. All departures and all arrivals of an airline will take place in Terminal 1 (previously the domestic Terminal).

Due to the changes at Helsinki-Vantaa airport, passengers are asked to arrive to the airport on time throughout the autumn 2009.

Beginning on 5 August Helsinki Airport will adopt a common international practice, in which flights depart and arrive based on which terminal the airline in question is assigned. The division between international and domestic flights will be eliminated.

Airlines such as Blue1, SAS, Lufthansa, KLM and Brussels Airlines will move from the international terminal to the domestic terminal, which is now the new Terminal 1. Finnair and Finncomm will continue operating their domestic flights out of the same terminal as its international flights, i.e. Terminal 2.

Passengers are asked to check the terminal before arriving at the airport at Helsinki-Vantaa - Lentoasema. Tickets also show the correct departure terminal.

Finavia has completed extensive renovations to the current domestic terminal, so that the new Terminal 1 will be ready to meet the needs of international passengers.

The check-in and security control areas have been expanded and improved. The baggage claim and passenger pick-up areas have also been updated. In addition to this, new cafés, shops and other services will be opened in the autumn. Some of the services will be open at the beginning of August and the rest later in the autumn.

Arrive at the airport on time

Passengers are asked to arrive at the airport on time throughout the autumn. At the same time that the airlines are changing terminals, one of the check-in halls will be closed for renovations.

Preparations have already been made for the reduced check-in and security control capacity. Finavia has built additional security control points and check-in desks.

Additional personnel have been employed to assist passengers and information on the changes has been extensively posted at the airport and in the media. However, beginning in August it is a good idea to allow ample time before departure.
