India and Ireland are likely to expand an air services agreement to allow flag carriers Air India and Aer Lingus to start flying to the two countries, according to an unnamed civil aviation ministry official familiar with the development, Dow Jones reported.
The move comes as Air India is considering Dublin airport as a new European hub for one-stop flights between India and the US.
A second official, however, said it was too early to take a decision on such a move, given that Air India is looking for a government bailout.
The company's chairman and managing director, Arvind Jadhav, will inspect the airport over the next two weeks, accompanied by senior civil aviation ministry officials.
