- January 20, 2010 - Hawaiian Airlines today offered a glimpse at its first new Airbus A330-200 aircraft being built in the factory in Toulouse, France, with the fuselage joined and beginning the final stages of assembly before its scheduled delivery to Hawaiian in April (click here for photo).
Hawaiian plans to have up to 27 new Airbus aircraft as part of its fleet by the end of this decade. Hawaiian is leasing three A330s, with these aircraft joining the fleet in April, May, and November of this year. Hawaiian has also signed a purchase agreement with Airbus to acquire six wide-body A330-200 aircraft (starting in 2012) and six A350XWB-800 (Extra Wide-Body) aircraft (starting in 2017), as well as purchase rights for an additional six aircraft of each model.
Hawaiian’s first two A330s will service its Los Angeles-Honolulu route starting in June.
The A330 seats 294 passengers in a two-class configuration and offers Hawaiian the benefits of increased seating capacity coupled with improved fuel efficiency, and an operating range of 6,050 nautical miles. Hawaiian will be able to fly nonstop to all of North America and points in eastern Asia.
Hawaiian’s new A330s will arrive with a state-of-the-art interactive, on demand entertainment system for every passenger. A high-resolution LCD touch screen monitor installed in each seatback will allow customers to choose from a wide selection of movies and video programs, audio channels and video games. Each system will also include a USB port allowing customers to connect their own media players, while first class seats will be equipped with a larger monitor and iPOD compatibility.
