Aer Lingus has become the latest airline to introduce a fee for carry-on baggage.

Passengers will no longer be able to carry a bag weighing up to 10kg into the cabin free-of-charge. Customers will now have to purchase priority boarding at a cost of £5.99 to store it in an overhead locker.

The new policy will apply to services in Europe, including the UK, for customers travelling from June 29 onwards. The airline stated that “these changes are being introduced to ensure faster boarding and de-planing, therefore improving overall customer experience”

"Improving overall customer experience" klingt etwa wie die irische Übersetzung für "auf vielfachen Kundenwunsch"

Das hat man sich entsprechend für FR und U2 abgeguckt.
Eine kleine Tasche darf man sicherlich immer noch kostenfrei unterm Vordersitz platzieren.

Konnte schon jemand Erfahrung mit dem neuen System sammeln? Konkret geht es mir um die Frage, ob man bei einer stark subventionierten OTA-Buchung (immerhin 33€ statt 46€) das Handgepäck auf der Website von EI dazu buchen kann. FR ist in dieser Hinsicht ja sehr zickig.

GBP 5.99 für 10kg Gepäckstück plus Priority Boarding ist natürlich kein schlechter Deal, das kostet woanders auch schnell mal das doppelte.

Was bei EI allerdings auch bitter nötig ist. Niemand boarded langsamer und ineffizienter als EI in DUB... Über 40 Minuten um eine simple A320 zu boarden habe ich bisher nur einmal erlebt...
