Shooting the same colorful sunset as before in black & white with the B&W+Yellow Filter simulation, maximum contrast (Shadow Tone +2, Highlight Tone +2), using Sharpness +2 and Noise Reduction -2 to add at least a little digital "grain". No colors necessary for a dramatic effect

Factory settings shot of the sunset scene. The camera's Provia tone curve puts the dark foreground in the blacks, which is a nice effect. However, this doesn't mean that the camera's dynamic range is limited. Quite to contrary, the ISOless Sony sensor in the X100T enables us to expand the DR during RAW processing by several stops, as demonstrated in the following version:

Switching on the light: the ISOless sensor in action. Here's what was actually going on in the foreground of the previous example. Adaptive ISO processing is a state-of-the-art DR expansion method that is perfectly suited for cameras with ISOless sensors. It's possible to add about 3 stops of additional dynamic range without sacrificing quality in practical terms

According to the X100 series manuals, it's not recommended to shoot wide open at close range, but I like to do it anyway for a dreamy effect. Exposed to the highlights with some intentional clipping, Sharpness +2. The new electronic shutter option allowed using 1/2000s wide open, so no ND filter was required here

Shooting as maximum aperture (f/16) offers front-to-back sharpness, and the built-in Lens Modulation Optimizer (LMO) of the camera's JPEG engine mitigates diffraction blur. Manually set hyperfocal distance, Sharpness +1, Noise Reduction -1
