A KLM Cityhopper Fokker 70, registration PH-KZI performing flight WA-1217/KL-1217 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Oslo Sandefjord (Norway), was enroute at FL350 about 33nm southwest of Sylt's Westerland Airport (Germany) when an American F-15C fighter jet came into conflict. The Fokker crew climbed their aircraft to above FL362 before returning to their assigned flight level. Both aircraft landed safely at their assigned destinations.
The Dutch Onderzoeksraad/Safety Board (DSB) rated the occurrence a near collision and opened an investigation after being informed about the occurrence by Germany's BFU.
