I almost exclusively use FlightStats by changing the URLs because it's quicker. It still charges credits if you do that for an individual flight though. I think the difference you're noticing is that if you're not looking at individual flight details, just a group of flights (e.g. all PHL-LHR flights on a given day, or all departures by US from ZRH on a given day), it doesn't charge you for that and never has. But as soon as you go down to the individual flight level, whether through the search function or URL, you'll see it deduct a credit.
I forgot to mention that it has a monthly/yearly subscription, but it's worth it.

And yes, I change the URLs for groups of flights only, not individual details. I combine both FlightStats and byAir to reconstruct flights that sometimes span half a month lol.

I'll throw a few more in the mix here. I've checked FlightAware, FlightStats, acarsd.org, and BTS, as applicable, for all of these. Where I can conclusively determine the inbound or return, I've noted it. By the way, I try to always post the actual arrival/departure times, as sometimes when a flight is delayed this can help figure out ambiguous ACARS data, inbounds, etc.

Even though this app seems fairly new, seems like they have a lot of historical data? Any idea where they're getting it from and whether it's reliable? Like is it coming from a good source that you could otherwise access but it's quicker to get it from there, or have they tapped in to something that wasn't publicly available, but that should be solid?
