These flights seem to fill the gap since yours wasn't tracked. I checked the movements at SYD on that day, and got the tail number for each consecutive departure after 16:37 via 2009 ACARS and 16Right. All tail numbers were found to have been somewhere else at the time of QF728/729, if not used a different aircraft type. QF805 was the first B738 flight to not have an entry on 16Right, so I traced its would-be path and got QF719 since there were way fewer flights. On 16Right, VH-VXN's only activity was QF503 and the timings perfectly match to make space for the AYQ flights.

The weird thing about this is that I'm getting indications from by Air that it had taken off and landed despite the canceled notice. TranStats doesn't show a tail number and the times are all 00:00 for US2180 which usually indicates a canceled flight.

I wonder what happened that day for there to be so many delays and inaccurate data in the New York-DC area...🤔
This one puzzles me the most, I still have the same email address from 2011 and have never deleted an email. There are no emails from the airline and no emails to the person I was meeting to inform them of a delay or cancellation. It was also a clear weather day. It was also a novel flight for me at the time not my regular SYD-MEL commute where my memory got a bit blurry on flight cancellations at times .

Maybe I need to dig out my old phone and trawl through text messages from that day ha !

I'll throw a few more in the mix here. I've checked FlightAware, FlightStats, acarsd.org, and BTS, as applicable, for all of these. Where I can conclusively determine the inbound or return, I've noted it. By the way, I try to always post the actual arrival/departure times, as sometimes when a flight is delayed this can help figure out ambiguous ACARS data, inbounds, etc.

Like is it coming from a good source that you could otherwise access but it's quicker to get it from there, or have they tapped in to something that wasn't publicly available, but that should be solid?
