Points & Money — Hilton’s take on this cash-points hybrid is a bit different than the competition. Rather than offering fixed redemption amounts, it sounds like members will be able to select a variable mix of cash and points. So you can redeem 20,000 points instead of 40,000 for a stay, and make up the difference with cash. It’s not clear how much cash you’ll need to use to offset each point, but we should know more before this feature launches later next month.
Points Pooling — This feature, expected to launch this spring, will let members combine their points with 10 friends or family members for free. I’m excited to hear more about how this will work!
Amazon Shop with Points — Just as the card issuers now permit, Honors members will be able to redeem points toward Amazon purchases. Hopefully there’s a decent exchange rate at play here, but something tells me you’ll probably end up getting a raw deal. This one’s expected to launch this summer.
Diamond Status Extension — Diamond members who have accumulated 500,000 points, or have had Diamond status for 3+ years and have stayed a total of 250 nights will be able to extend their status for one more year free of charge. That’s supposed to kick in this spring, and there’s no word on whether or not this new policy will apply retroactively.
